Tile Roof Washing
Why Wash The Roof?
Most tile roofs are breathable and thus have a living character. Just like all other living organisms, our roofs also need maintenance to ensure their long lifespan and aesthetic appearance. Airborne dust, organic particles flying from trees and plants, combined with harsh weather conditions—like heavy rain or storms—create an ideal "hurricane" ground for our roofs, where everything flying around eventually lands back on our roof without warning. And if that roof isn't well protected, it causes damage.
At first glance, this might only be visual damage:
-
Faded or dried-out paint, which promotes faster decomposition of the roofing material's surface.
-
Organic life, i.e., moss, which weakens the roof surface and increasingly encourages mold formation.
-
Broken or cracked tiles, which transfer moisture and promote mold growth into the roof structure.
However, the damage to a person's wallet is greater if things have progressed to the point where it's time to replace the roof because it wasn't maintained in time. Due to the aforementioned conditions, moisture or even mold may have reached the roof structures.
When to Wash a Roof?
The best time for roof washing is from spring to autumn, as long as the temperatures remain above freezing.
Depending on the location—for example, in a densely wooded area—it's worth washing the roof every 2-3 years to prevent moss and mold formation and to preserve its visual and long-lasting beauty. For a roof in a less natural environment, it's advisable to wash it every 3-5 years.
